Pentecost

Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost – August 31, 2025

August 30, 2025 by admin

We gather on the 12th Sunday after Pentecost
August 31 –  10am worship

“Those who humble themselves will be exalted”  Luke 14:11

Invited and inviting – that is the nature of the church.  By God’s grace in holy baptism we have a place at Christ’s banquet table.  When, by the power of that same Spirit, humility and mutual love continue among us, the church can be more inviting still.

You can also participate in worship through the livestream and recording at www.ststephenslutheran.org.

There is usually a Children’s Church / Sunday School program planned during worship. Please contact Leslie Lapp 476-4700 for more info. The Family Room is always available adjacent to the sanctuary for little one’s activities if you need it. We love having children in church and all that brings as part of worship!

Tenth Sunday after Pentecost – August 17, 2025

August 16, 2025 by admin

We gather on the 10th Sunday after Pentecost
August 17 –  10am worship

“Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth?”  Luke 12:51

Jesus delivers harsh words about the purifying and potentially divisive effects of obedience to God’s call. The way of the cross often leads followers to encounter hostility and rejection, even from those they love.

Ninth Sunday after Pentecost – August 10, 2025

August 9, 2025 by admin

We gather on the 9th Sunday after Pentecost
August 10 –  10am worship
“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”  Luke 12:34

Pastor Greg Ronning Presiding

Jesus says, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”  It is God’s promise from the beginning – to Abraham, to the early church, and to the “little flock” of which we are a part in today’s assembly.  Faith, God’s baptismal gift, trusts the promises of God.  Have no fear.

You can also participate in worship through the livestream and recording at www.ststephenslutheran.org.

Seventh Sunday after Pentecost – July 27, 2025

July 26, 2025 by admin

We gather on the 7th Sunday after Pentecost
July 27 –  10am worship

“Lord Teach us to Pray”  Luke 11:11

Persistence in prayer is encouraged by Jesus and wins the attention of God when Abraham interceds for Sodom. The life of the baptized – to be rooted and built up in Christ Jesus – is to be nurtured with prayer. God hears and answers prayer and so strengthens God’s own. “When I called, you answered me; you increased my strength within me.”

Fifth Sunday after Pentecost – July 13, 2025

July 11, 2025 by admin

We gather on the 5th Sunday after Pentecost
July 13 –  10am worship

“Who is my neighbor?”  Luke 10:29

To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind is to reflect God’s mercy in responding to one’s neighbor.  That mercy found its most profound expression in the “gospel that has come to you” – namely the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  That gospel mercy comes to us again today:  at the font, at the table, and from the pulpit.  It is very near to you.
